Importing from VHS to DV-AVI format

Not sure if this is any help, but ArcSoft's ShowBiz does
allow you to capture VHS directly to the dv-avi format...
you just gotta have a lot of free hard drive space -- I
just did this with about 20 minutes of VHS data and the
avi file wound up being nearly 5GB in size.

Is there any way I can directly import from my VHS video
recorder into Movie Maker in DV-AVI format? It seems the
only way to do this is when capturing from my camcorder,
unless I'm missing something obvious.
I know I'm able to record from VHS onto my camcorder,
and so could do this first, and then capture from my
camcorder, but if there's any way of doing it directly
I'd rather do this.
At the moment, the largest size that I can capture seems
to be 320 x 240 which is well short of the DV-AVI format.

Thanks. I'll have a look at ShowBiz - there's a 15 day trial available

Failing that, I think I'm just going to have to record onto my camcorder and then capture from there.

MM only outputs to Type 1 DV - AVI, but it will easily accept (import) most
all other AVI variants. So, if you have analogue input capture capability
(S-Video or Composite), you might try something simple like "VirtualDub;"
free, well supported and will output a Type - 2 AVI. Yes Virginia, it will
work in MM.

VirtualDub Usage Tip!
Google for "Huffyuv" lossless codec, use it in conjunction with VirtualDub
and you should be able to grab some really decent Video.
