Importing from Outlook Express

I am switching from Outlook Express v6 to Outlook 97. Does anyone have any
tips or things to watch out for when importing my existing mail folders and
address book from OE? Also, I am trying to delete as many emails as possible
in OE before I transfer, but I find that the size of the OE .dbx files do not
shrink despite deleting emails. How can I reduce the file sizes?

Are you sure you want to do this? Outlook 97 is outdated and unsupported by
Microsoft while OE still is. Anyway; instead of importing use Export from
within OE to keep the received date of the messages.

Export your messages from OE to Outlook in order to preserve the time
stamps.

Deleting a message just marks the space taken in the DBX file as unused. To
actually remove that space from the DBX files, click File>Folder>Compact All
Folders

Outlook97? Outlook 97 is no longer supported not to mention the instability
of the program. I would not recommend moving to OL97.

In three years of using OL 97 on one of my PCs, I've had zero problems.

I also have Outlook 2003 - I should have described the whole problem - my
apologies. My current OE is on an old pc which also has Outlook 97, and I
want to transfer it to a new PC which has Outlook 2003. So 2 questions come
to mind: (a) Is Outlook 2003 supported and stable? (b) if yes, what is the
best way to carry out the trasnfer between the 2 machines without using
Outlook 97? Thank you so much for the advice already given. I am grateful for
any answers to the above questions too. Sam.

If you have any data in Outlook 97 on the old PC that you want, use Outlook
Express on the old PC to import from Outlook 97 into Outlook Express on the
old PC. Then, transfer your mail and address book from Outlook Express on
the old PC to Outlook Express on the new PC. Then, use Outlook Express'
Export feature to export your data into Outlook 2003 on the new PC.

Transfer the OE data to the new machine, import it into OE on that machine,
and then export to Outlook 2003. See http://www.insideoe.com/ for
information on importing OE data into OE.
