Importing Excel chart changes font

In Excel I clicked on a chart and copied it then pasted it into Powerpoint
(still using Powerpoint 2000 here). In Excel the data point labels are in
Arial font but when the chart is pasted into Powerpoint the font changes to
Times New Roman or something very like it. When I try to edit the chart in
Powerpoint, to change the font to Arial, the font goes back to Arial as soon
as I go into Edit mode, but when I exit edit it reverts to Times New Roman.

Is there something you can set in Powerpoint so data labels will retain the
font?

Grateful for any suggestions.

You can check the setting in Tools | Options for "charts take on PPT font,"
but I think this might be related to the size of the font, wonky as that
sounds. Is your chart text 8 pts or less?

You're exactly right! The font for data labels was 7pt. If I put it up to 8pt
it imports into Powerpoint with the correct font. Very strange.
