importing e-mails from OE

I recently installed OL 2002. I imported my address book and e-mails
from OE. However, many of the e-mails had the date that I imported
them, not the date that they were actually written. To fix this, since
I had done the import from OL, someone suggested that I try exporting
from OE, which I did. I then had many duplicate e-mails but OL worked.
However, at some point it stopped and I was not able to send, receive,
delete, or perform any other function. I finally permanently deleted
(shift+delete) all the folders that I had added and now OL is working
again.

Now I want to get all the e-mails from OE over to OL again, but I do
not want the same problem with the wrong date. How can I import (or
export) them so they retain the date that they were written?

Thank you.

Start a fresh profile (just for the sake of it, keep everything clean), then
do an EXPORT from Outlook Express! That would keep dates etc...

Thanks to Ivan Willilams and DL. As you both advised separately, I
exported from OE to OL, and it worked.
