unknown error Ox8004060C

I am using Outlook 2002 (10.6515.6817) SP3 and Internet Explorer 7.

Outlook will not work at all. I get an "unknown error Ox8004060C" when
I try to send or receive e-mails in both of my accounts. I cannot
delete e-mails and when I try I get "The messaging
interface has returned an unknown error. If the problem persists,
restart Outlook." I have restarted Outlook many times and rebooted and
I still cannot use the program.

Each time I restart OL it tries to send the e-mails that are in its
Outbox. Although I get the above message about the unknown error and
the e-mails do not appear to go, one of the messages was to a friend in
France and she received it at least 26 times. I sent a test message to
myself and found that it was sent when I went to the ISP website. But
it is still in the Outbox of OL.

If I go to Outlook Express I find that there are messages there. But I
had put OL as my default e-mail program, so do not know why this is
happening.

Thank you for your help.

The fact that outlook opens makes me think that the items in your outbox may
have attachments that are too big for your bandwidth. Problem is you can't
delete them...yet. To delete them... try going to file>work offline. Then
close outlook and reopen it, you should now be able to delete those emails
from your outbox. Go to File and check it to work online again, close outlook
and reopen it, then try to send and recieve. Might work...giver a try.

The e-mails in my outbox do not have attachments; in fact these are
four very small e-mails, 3 that are 1 kb and 1 that is 2 kb. But I
followed your suggestion and went offline and then reopened the
program, and it did not work. I got the same message as I noted before,
"The messaging interface has returned an unknown error. If the problem
persists, restart Outlook."

Do you have any more ideas?

You can look through the articles here but I am not certain which would apply to your case:

Something there should apply.

I went to the website you noted and followed the instructions for what
seemed to be my problem. I used the Inbox Repair Tools, which said that
my .pst file was okay. I already have SP3 installed, so I did not
download any suggested updates.

I was able to delete the e-mails that were stuck in my Outbox by
following someone's advice on this forum for another questioner, which
was to hit shift and delete. That worked, but I still am not able to
send or receive e-mails or delete the regular way.

I was wondering if it would be best for me to delete my two accounts in
OL and then again convert from OE to OL. If I do that (delete the
accounts), would I lose all the e-mails in the folders in OL? That
would be okay, because I changed to OL just a couple of days ago and
except for the Inbox and Sent box in OL, all the stored files are the
same in both programs. Since there are a lot of files with the wrong
date and duplicate files in OL, I would prefer to start over.

Do you think that this is a good idea and would it work? Is there
anything else I would have to do other than delete the two accounts
(ATT and Verizon)?

Thank you for your help.
