importing data to custom Contacts form

I am running office 2003 pro on an xp pro machine. I have a database that I
want to use as an outlook contacts list.
I have saved the database in a .csv format and I can import it into the
contacts perfectly fine but, I want to use some fields that don’t show up on
the default contact form (“User Field 1†for example).

I have created a new form that has all of the fields on it but when you
import the .csv file, it imports that data to the standard form. I have even
changed the default form for Contacts to the one I created and if I go to
create a new contact, my form shows up. I just can’t figure out how to
import the database into my form. Or how to convert the imported data to use
my form instead of the default form that it was imported into. I hope I made
myself clear on this and I think I have tried everything short of retyping
all the info from my database into contacts.

If anyone could explain any process that would produce the desired results,
I would be most humbly thankful.

Making the imported contacts use you form after they are imported is easy -
change the message class.
see http://www.outlook-tips.net/archives/2004/20040525.htm

Imported items always use the default for me. I'm not aware of a way to
change it - I just run docmessageclass on the folder. (link at url above)

Thank you, thank you, thank you. I would hope that in this world of
customization, MS will make this easier in the future. Diane you are a
pearl. thank you
