Importing contacts to Public Folders

T

Tiffany

I need to import contacts from different people's mailboxes to Public
Folders. I've tried exporting them to .pst files and imporing them to
Pulibc Folders. I got "Items cannot be created in the root of public
folders" message. Since there are quite a few contact lists to import, it
is a pain to copy and paste individual contacts. Any tools or suggestions?

One of our products may be of interest to you which enable you to import to
any contact folder in your Outlook profile (you will need to have the
other's people's mailboxes set up as delegate accounts in your profile).

Feature comparison for import products can be viewed here:

However, if you want to just copy all of the contacts - our
ContactGenie-MessageClassModifier product (CG-MCM which is free) also has
"copy" and "move" functions enabling you to copy/move contacts from one
Outlook folder to another (http://www.contactgenie.com/cgtmcm.htm) which
sounds like it may be a better solution for you then "importing".

All you need to do is drag the items from the folder in the .pst file to the folder under Public Folders.

Sue, one thing that we have seen when doing the "drag 'n drop" process
within Outlook on very large contact folders is endless messages about
memory (or lack thereof) or variations thereof when some addons are in play
which can make this a very tedious process (and we weren't using "minimal
config" systems in these scenarios). For smaller folders - this process
works like a charm. Just mentioning this as a FYI.

Karl/ Sue I have also often found that you just can't drag many at a time
from Contacts to Public Contacts. If you grab small chunks it works OK.
