importing contacts and folders to Windows Live Mail

I've installed windows live mail from
http://get.live.com/betas/maildesktop_betas but had to import contacts &
folders from windows mail via file/import. I got the contacts, in fact I got
two of every one! And all the "storage folders" that were imported are called
"imported folders" and all of them are empty even tho they all have bracketed
numbers beside them! How do I get my folders back with their saved messages?
And is there an easy way to clean up the mess in my contacts file?
