Importing Clips into an existing collection

I have a group of short AVI clips that I would like to import into a single
collection. When I use the import clip command, I get a separate collection
for each clip. I tried dragging the group of files into an existing
collection, but again I got a separate collection for each clip. I can work
around the problem by manually opening each collection and dragging the clip
into the collection that I want it in, but this is a pain. I am sure that I
am missing something obviious. What is it?

Unfortunately you aren't missing anything at all.
This is the way the program works and believe me you aren't alone in
thinking this "feature" was a bad idea.
