CATEGORIES AND CLIPS

I create a collection.
I try to import an avi. clip into this collection by dragging and dropping.
It appears as another collection and not a clip. (This will play in the
screen)
I try to import another clip and it also becomes a collection (neither of
these will play in the screen)

I have also tried importing avi. files in bulk but they make categories.

You need to change the order of your steps:
1. Import all videos, these go into their own collection foldr.
2. Make a working collection folder
3. press the "Collections" tab button on the toolbar. This shows the
collections as a listof folders.
4. For each clip you want to work on, drag it from its respective folder
intot he working folder.

Rehan outlines the steps exactly.
Unfortunately there is no way to have your clips import into the collection
of your choosing.
Some consider this a feature because your video can automatically be split
into smaller clips and those will be housed in the collection folder for
that particular video but I don't agree simply because if it's a feature
then you should be able to shut it off if you want to.

For my purposes, where I have to process a lot of clips in batches, doing
anything on an individual basis is not a feature but drudgery. Any vido
processin software I have used allows bulk imports. You are absolutely
correct Wojo it should be a selectable process.

There is a theoretical workaround: Combine all the clips externally into
a single movie and then import that into movie maker. If the clip
boundaries were originally distinct (i.e considerable scene change) then
by luck you may be able to get all your clips back when movie maker
makes the clips on import.

You can use one of the following tools for joining the files:
MediaJoin http:

AviSplit Classic (freeware video joiner, video splitter)
CombiMovie (freeware mpeg joiner)
AviTricks Video Editor Classic (Freeware)

AviSynth

Let us know how it goes if you try this method.

Not much of a workaround if you ask me but your right theoretically it can
be done.
