Why I try to import movies I downloaded from ares ultra, wmm sends an error:
cannot be imported because the codec required to play the file is not
installed on your computer! How do I get the codec it is referencing?

I transfered the movies to wmp, but evidently that is not what your

Graham,

I am having a similar problem. MM will not read an .AVI file created on the
V.I.O (http://www.vio-pov.com/index.php)recorder. However, the muvee
software product will read it. I want to be able to use MM. How do I locate
the specific converter to convert the .AVI file coming out of the V.I.O. to
something acceptable to MM.

when I try to import a movie I made on another computer with movie maker
movie maker 2.6 fails and I get " MSWMM cannot be imported because the codec
required to play the file is not installed on your computer. If you have
already tried to download and install the codec, close and restart Windows
Movie Maker, and then try to import the file again.

A .mswmm file is not a movie...it is a project file.
If you double left click the .mswmm file it may
open Movie Maker but unless you also imported
all the source files it won't be usable.

And BTW....mswmm files created on a Vista
machine will not work on an XP machine.
