Important Update Failed--Is it preventing SP1 from displaying?

I've tried all 8 steps of the "Windows Vista Service Pack 1 is not
available for installation from Windows Update" but I still can't get SP1 to
show up. In reviewing my installed updates, I see that the Windows
Malicious Software Removal Tool failed to install on March 13. Could this
be preventing me from seeing SP1?

I've tried to fix it by separately installing this tool, but it still
shows as failed. I also cannot delete it from the history, not can I
reinstall from the history. Any suggestions?

An alternative: Download the update from the MS site. Bigger file,
same result.
However, if your drivers or hardware are incompatible then that result
may not please.
Always back up personal files before making changes.
