Important MyIE2 Question Please

B

Bob Newman

I tried MyIE2 web browser and was disappointed and uninstalled via XP's
add/remove programs. Now when I try and start MS IE6 I get a dialog box
that comes up and says "Please Sect Language". English is the only language
listed when I chose it the box goes away and nothing happens. I can get IE6
to start (without the dialog box) but choosing run from the start menu,
navigating to the IEXPLORE.EXE file and run it. That is the ONLY way I can
get IE6 to run. If I create a desktop shortcut and click on it I get the
same select language dialog box with the same result. HELP PLEASE! I want
to avoid a reinstall at all costs if possible.

Your problem is unusual. I have never experienced this, and doubt it was
caused by MyIE2. If you can run IE from the Run menu, you can also create a
new shortcut and it will run precisely the same, providing the shortcut
parameters are not unusual.

Have you tried to repair IE6 in Control Panel?

When you say "tried to repair IE6 in the control panel" I'm not sure what
you mean, could you please elaborate. As far as it not having anything to
do with MyIE2, I've never heard of not being able to create a shortcut
either, but i'ts a pretty long coincidence that IE6 has worked just fine for
years (or however long it's been out) and the very minute I uninstall MyIE2
it decides to go bad.

Have you tried going to Start>>Control Panel>>Internet Options>>Programs
tab and make sure that "Internet Explorer should check to see whether
it's the default browser" is checked? Wouldn't hurt to click the "Reset
web settings" button also. Good luck.

I searched newsgroup messages using Google for the phrase "Please select
language" - nothing relevant came up. Searched Microsoft Knowledge Base
too, nothing. Searched MyIE forum, nothing.

Check to see if IE6 is default browser was not checked, I did so - no
difference. No difference on the reset settings either. Even when I click
a link to a help page someone in a newsgroup gives I get the same "language"
dialog box.

Maybe your default IE language settings have vaporized! ;-)

Try this...

Open Control Panel > Internet Options
On the very first page GENERAL click the LANGUAGE button at the bottom
If there isn't any language present or if an unwanted language is present,
click REMOVE and then click ADD.. English (United States) En-US

May work, although to be honest haven't heard of a previous similar case as
yours.

Good Luck and let us know if it works!

MyIE2 runs on IE's core. It may well have caused it.
I've tried MyIE2 several times now on win98se. I *wanted* to like it
and I *wanted* it to work. It never did. Caused me nothing but
headaches.

English is there. The only one listed.

This gets crazier by the minute. I did as you suggested but only saw the, I
believe it said repair to an earlier version, which I chose. XP did it's
thing & re-booted. I then went to the iexplore.exe file made a shortcut &
put it on my desktop. Presto magico it worked fine. Then a dragged a url
address from IE6 to my desktop as a shortcut. When clicking that to start
IE6 not only doesn't IE6 start but MyIE2 (which wasn't even on my system
before the repair) does star! I then go to add/remove programs to see if I
made the wrong choice & IE6 isn't even on the list of programs! There are
many "programs" listed as "Hot Fix #####" however. !!!

Bob
In a previous post you said you chose "repair to an earlier version",
maybe you're running ie5.5 now ?
So you could try to download ie 6 again at

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/downloads/critical/ie6sp1/default.asp

and so re-install it over your 5.5 version. Or maybe you could even
try to re-install ie6 over your old ie6 if you're still running that
one. Not sure it will work, but it's worth giving it a shot I guess.
By the way, I never encountered any problems with MyIE2 on my machine.

If you are using XP isnt it possible to use system restore and restore pc
back to a date before MYIE2 was installed?.Maybe this would be the best
course of action at this time.
