Import hyperlinks

Good morning,

I am trying to import records from an Excel file and a column of this file
contains hyperlinks that work if you click on them from Excel, but when I
import them to Access, these hyperlinks do not work, these records only show
the hyperlink text. I'd be curious to know if there is a way to import the
links in their original functioning format. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Hi, Brent.

Here are two tricks that work in Access 2003, but I've never had occasion to
use them in other versions, so YMMV.

1.) Import the spreadsheet into a new table. Open the table in Design
View, then change the Text field that should have been a Hyperlink to a
Hyperlink data type and save the table.

or:

2.) First, make a backup copy of the table just in case, then import the
spreadsheet into an existing table. Open the table in Design View, then
change the Hyperlink field to a Text data type with 255 Field Size and save
the table. Change this field back to a Hyperlink data type and save the
table.

Open the table in Datasheet View. Voila! Hyperlinks that work in Access,
too.

I had the same problem, the imported hyperlinks came in as text. Converting
the field type to hyperlink didn't work. What I found did work is:

Save the Excel file as an html doc.
Import the html doc to Access.
This brought my file in wiht hyperlinks in tact, using Access 2000.
