Impact of Performance Monitoring

Does anybody know or have any detail as to how Windows 2000 performacing
monitoring works from a system level as I need to find out the impact
monitoring from a remote client will impact a production system.
 
I think thats going to be VERY situation specific.
Hardware/frequency/parameter count etc.
