It is not as simple as moving Windows XP from one drive to another in
order to have it functioning. Windows XP needs to be installed new into
the second drive or that of its image into the second drive. For either
way, back up the files on the second drive as they will be erased. Remove
the master drive and re-set the second drive as the new master. Install
XP in the usual way by booting from the cdrom or transfer the image file
made from Acronis TrueImage, Symantec DiskImage or whatever.

You clone it. Simple copying will *not* result in a bootable drive.

However, cloning only works to a bare drive, so if you have data on the 2nd
drive that you want to keep, you need another drive.

There are various cloning utilities, including some from drive
manufacturers.

John...

If you are going to go the "clone" route - keep this in mind: Some drive
manufacturers won't tell you how effective using their quick "drive cloning
" utilities are, or that it may result having to perform a inplace repair
install afterwards. I'd get a copy of Acronis True Image, and make a drive
Image, long before I'd go the Clone route again.

I ran into a major problem with a Maxtor 300GB drive swap I did - using
their cloning software. After having too many problems battling what had
been corrupted during the cloning process -it resulted in my wiping the
whole C: drive, and doing a clean install of my OS.
