via Outlook & using IMAP to connect to an Exchange server,
how does one use offline folders, etc., to keep in synch
when offline?

Buck,

If you are not using the Exchange Server service to connect to the Exchange
server then you cannot use offline folders (for offline use).

By the way, which version of Outlook are you using?

Thanks,

hmmm, well that explains that. we are using ver
2002910.2627.3501) sp-1.

since we have done away with 135/tcp for connecting to
Exchange services via Outlook and have gone to IMAP or
POP3 it has caused some frustrations with some of our
users due to some functionality loss.

so if a road warrior uses IMAP does he have to click "Make
the folder available offline" so he will have the full
message/attachment? and he has to do this for each folder?
is this the same for POP3?

which is better to use for road warriors, POP3 or IMAP as
far as synching folders?

You can't sync to offline folders with POP or IMAP. Use VPN or ISA
publishing so they can access their full mailbox. This was a useful wakeup
call, honestly, as those ports really should never have been open in your
firewall to begin with. You do have a good firewall protecting your network,
right?

but of course my dear watson, we have a few. the vpn
solution is another issue...have vpn, vpn clients
conflict, is slow, working on new solution...but in the
interim, we have POP, IMAP and OWA. now back to my
regularly scheduled question and that is,,,with
Outlook/IMAP under Tools, there is an option to have
folders available offline. doesn't this mean that email
and attachments will be copied to the user's local machine
into a *?.pst file?
