Hi All,

I have some IMAP accounts that I access under outlook. I have no automatic
junk mail filtering set in outlook options but every time outlook opens it
will create a junk email folder in the imap account.

if i delete the folder then it will just re-appear next time outlook
accesses it.

My question is there anyway to stop outlook automatically creating this
folder?

thanks in advance.

IMAP4 synchronizes to the folder hierarchy present in your IMAP4
account. Do you have a Junk folder up on the server? Use the webmail
interface to your IMAP4 account to check.

no i checked this. took outlook offline, deleted the folder in imap.
connected outlook again and bam, there is is again.

i know it's outlook because the folder is 'junk e-mail' which outlook is the
only client that names it that way.

cheers for the reply.

Depends on how you comment to the IMAP server. For gmail, for example, if I
leave the "Root folder path" on the Advanced tab of the account properties
empty, the gmail server does not acquire a Junk E-mail folder, but the gmail
server's folders are not in the same level as Inbox; they're underneath a
folder hierarchy named "[Gmail]". If, however, I set the root folder path
to "[Gmail]" so that all of the IMAP PST folders are on the same level, then
Outlook will create the Junk E-mail folder on the server instead of simply
keeping it local.

thanks for the reply, yes it is a gmail account and i have left the
root folder path blank.

Well, then, I can't explain it because for me, the Junk E-mail folder is not
added to the server. What version of Outlook are you using?
