Who is your ISP?
Have you tried using the SMTP server settings provided by them?

filter. If i use there settings i then can't send or receive emails from the
mac account is that right???? As i want to be able to send out and receive
emails from the mac account>>>
Thanks again Mac

Adam, I am not familiar with Mac applications, but I found the following
http://www.entourage.mvps.org/troubleshoot/send_receive/index.html#Receives

Try changing only the SMTP setting, and try with or without authentication
checked,
mail.optusnet.com.au

HTH?

For your Mac account, change the send settings to those specified by
your ISP. That will not affect your ability to receive emails from the Mac
account. Also, your Mac correspondents won't know (or care) that you
are sending through the Optus SMTP server.
