Images won't appear

M

Morris

I launch FP2003. It loads my web site from my computer harddrive. I click on
a page and it appears. I close it and I click on another page. This page is
loaded but the images are missing. I click on preview and the images appear.
I click bank on design and the images dissapear. The only I can get the
images back is to close FP and restart it. It's a pain. I know their is a
fix but I can't find it. Any of you have had that problem? Do you know where
I can find the fix?

Are you Importing your images into FP Image folder first, then inserting them in your design from there?

Also, make sure you're working with your Web open.

Yes & yes but I still have the problem. I had this problem before but
someone, in a newsgroup, found a fix. I had to reinstall FP and the problem
is back.

Check you graphics card for the latest updates
Plus have you tried the usual repairs in the sequence below:
1) In Windows Explorer Find and delete all FP Temp Files
Usually in C:\WINDOWS\Temp and %USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Temp
- in FP 2003 you need to look in the super hidden folder
Also delete your IE cache files
%USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\FrontPageTempDir
2) In Windows Explorer Find and delete all hidden *.web files
Usually in %USERPROFILE%\Application Data\Microsoft\Web Server Extensions\Cache
3) Run a Repair on IE
(see http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=318378 )
4) Install all Service Packs for your OS, IE, MS Office and your Video card
(Windows Update and Office Update sites, plus your video card supplier site)
5) Open FP and Disable or Uninstall any FP Addins,
6) Open your FP Web/Site and run a Tools Recalculate Hyperlinks

No, I haven't. This might be just the fix I'm looking for. I have copied
this message and pasted it in a word doc so that I'll always have it. Thank
you for your help.

I can't find anything. Can't find FP Temp Files or %USERPROFILE%. How can I
look in the FP hidden files if their hidden? Search won't find the temp
files. How do I unhide them? I've installed the service packs. I don't think
it's a problem with IE. It's a FP problem.

Check your Windows Explorer (Tools Folder Options View) settings

Close FrontPage if it's open.
Open MyComputer or Windows Explorer.
In the address bar type in (or cut and paste from here) the path Stefan
gave:
%USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\FrontPageTempDir
This will open the hidden folder.

Similarly, the hidden web cache folder can be opened by typing
%USERPROFILE%\Application Data\Microsoft\Web Server Extensions\Cache
into the address bar.

FrontPage uses a lot of code from IE, so any problems in IE (which may not
even show when IE is used) may affect FrontPage.
