images display incorrectly

I am a newcomer to Web Publishing, but some time ago I created a website on
my own machine, and also distributed it to friends on CD. It contains about
50 images, and it worked well both on my PC and on disc. I have now
attempted to publish it. Six of my images do not display properly, the rest
are fine - 3 show the red 'x' in top left, and three look as if a progressive
scan has aborted part way through. I have read other recent posts in this
forum, and can confirm that all images have been resized to 72pixels/inch,
and max dimension (portrait or landscape) is between 700 and 750. All are
..jpg format, and none have spaces in the filename (but all have dashes - the
ones that work and the ones that don't). I have tried deleting them from my
Frontpage image folder, re-publishing the website without them, going back to
front page, re-inserting from the original image files, re-saving and
re-publishing, and they show exactly the same problems. What am I doing
wrong?

Are you publishing to a Unix server, and are the image names exactly the
same as the links to them - this includes CaSe?
Running on a Windows PC or from CD on a Windows PC the CaSe differences
will not be noticeable, but Unix servers are Case sensitive -
picture.jpg is a different file to picture.JPG.

Hi Ronx
Sorry for the delay - not checked this site for a while. I can confirm I am
using Windows XP, and Front Page 2003. As far as I know, cases are correct
anyway. Sadly, I am still having the same problems with the same images,
despite deleting them entirely, saving the web without them, reinserting into
Images folder, dragging from images folder into empty spaces on my web,
resetting bookmarks and hyperlinks ..... re-publish, and ... hey presto ....
exactly as before!

Hi - Sorry, don't know anything about the server, but the site is
www.pureandconstant.talktalk.net. It's not very well laid out as it started
life as a university dissertation, so its more like a book than a website!

Look for Figure 8, Fig 12 and Fig 21 (from the figures list in the Intro.
page), and Plate 37 (accessed from within Chapter 4) and Plate 40 (from
Chapter5)

Hi - thanks for this, the way the images display (or don't) would suggest
some form of corruption, but what, and how do I cure it? All the images have
been prepared in the same way (Figures from flatbed scans, plates from Slide
scans) all resized and optimised for web using Adobe Photoshop Elements.
When I look at the list in Windows Explorer all the illustrations are of
broadly similar file sizes, and when I check the attributes and properties of
the "Corrupt" ones they are identical in every respect to the ones that
display correctly. I am prepared to believe they are corrupt, but in what
way, how can I cure them, and how will I know whether I have succeeded or
not, short of going through the whole publlishing rigmarole yet again?
