Images Disappearing from Powerpoint

I have a box with Win XP and Office 2003. For the past several months
I've been playing Powerpoint 2007 .pptx presentations on there via the
compatibility pack. All of a sudden, this week, many of the pictures
have disappeared. The file that I've been using has not changed, the
pictures just no longer show up, either while playing the
presentation, or just opening it in slide view.

Additionally, I have an Authorware presentation which contains images
originally copied from powerpoint presentations (xp, 2003, etc.). None
of these images show up in Authorware anymore, either, while all
images imported directly still show up fine.

Does anyone know of an "updated" image library which could have broken
the display of certain powerpoint-based images, even across programs?

Sounds like its external to PP to me. Had any other software installed lately?

Not that I know of. I think a new adobe acrobat reader was installed,
but that was a couple of weeks ago and the images did function after
that.
