Images are taking forever to view!

Hello ya'll.
I've got a really troublesome problem. I work a lot with
pictures and have thousands of them in my computer.
Everything worked fine until a few days ago when all of a
sudden, viewing the images started to take forever! I use
the "show as thumbnails" setting and before, the
thumbnails where shown instantly when I opened a folder.
Now it takes between 30s-1min for them to show up at all
and during that time my computer freezes completely! The
same thing occurs when I use ACD See :(

I made a CLEAN reinstall of XP just last week when I had
all the hdd's and partitions formatted. I've also got all
windows updates installed. I've tried moving the pictures
to different partitions and I tried defragmentation and
all I can come up with but it's always the same. The
images take forever to view, and they're jost normal size
jpegs. Everything else on my computer works fine. It's
just this annoying image thing.

Please help me with this one! I'm going totally crazy :(

.
Go in ControlPanel/Add or remove programs. See if
Q811493 (under SP1) update is listed. If it is uninstall
it for that is the slowdown culprit. You can always
download it again from MS and reinstall it.
