Image viewer for zip files on CD

I'm looking for an image viewer than can browse images inside zip files
that are on CDs. I do not want to have to manually unpack them.

Happy to report that this one does exactly what you want. If you have images
stored in zip files on a CD, you can view the contents of any zip file through
the Thumbnail viewer of this program. I gave it a trial run with a selected
folder I created. Once I selected the folder, the program immediately showed a
thumbnail view of all the images within the zip file. I like it . This one is
a keeper for me.

That's odd, because when I double click on a zip file in it, it just
opens the zip file in TugZip, not with any thumbnail view.

Suggest you don't. It puts "nakido.exe" in Windows\System32\, which runs
on startup and tries to connect to the internet.

I just did a little looking and there was a ACF thread about this called
"ACDSee equivalent ??" back on 10/19//04. Don't know if that is your
source...

If you are going to respond, please respond to the correct post. I did not recommend
TugZip. Here's what I recommended and the results after I tried it out:

What system are you using? I have Win98SE. I just tried another attempt. This time
I created two zip files, placed them in a folder on a cdrw disc. I selected this
folder in the drop down list in the left pane and immediately the icon for the two
zip files appeared in the right pane window. Double clicking either one resulted in
a thumbnail of my default image viewer icon with the name of each image under it.
Unfortunately, the actual images do not appear, but just having a thumbnail icon with
the name of the image under it should suffice most. After, you want to know what's
in the zip file without opening it right?

Note: When I did this yesterday, the actual image appeared in the right pane. I
don't know what has happened, but now I just get a thumbnail of my default image
viewer icon for each image.

I guess I'll have to play around with it a little more and see if I can duplicate the
results I got yesterday. Go figure :-o

You can adjust the size of the thumbnails so that you can have more or less roles of
them from the drop options under View.

By the way I use the off topic WinZip, but that shouldn't make any difference I
wouldn't think???

Here's something I've found by accident. This is a Japanese program, but
there is an English version.

ComicsViewer v1.19
Win 98/Me/NT/2000/XP

Home site (Japanese lang.)
http://stronghorse.yeah.net

Description (Japanese lang.)
http://www.comicer.com/stronghorse/software/index.htm#ComicsViewer

Download URL (English; 645K)
http://www.comicer.com/stronghorse/software/exe/ComicsViewer_eng.zip
Simply unzip to a folder to install.

Comic Viewer FAQ (Japanese lang.)
http://www.comicer.com/stronghorse/software/html/ComicsViewer.htm

This one definitely allows you to view images in zip and rar files.

First, sorry for not quoting... I cleaned up my OE folders before replying.

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned Optimal Archive stand-alone
version:(http://www.optimalaccess.com/en/product_archive.htm).

Optimal Archive treats Zip files (and other archive files) like folders,
letting you view/open any file that's in the archive without unzipping it.
I love it and couldn't function without it. It's free!

This looks horrible to me. 1.7MB download, requires system restart to
function.
Then you find you have to register and download a reg file to get it to
work. Then you find it only handles one file at once...

Ah, the problem was that the site you linked for it was down, so I found
an alternate download site on vivisimo and got it from there. I think
that what I downloaded was an older version that lacked .zip archive
support.

I used to use WinZip, but TugZip does pretty much everything WinZip did
for me, and it supports 7-zip archives as well.
