Image vanishes

I'm running vista 64 bit on a desktop Dell xp420 computer. While playing a
chessgrandmaster chess game with the installed program the entire imae
dissapeared from the screen. I checked the task manager and the event viewer
and there was no incication that the game was still running. What might
cause this instabiloity?
 
Have you checked with the folks who wrote/produced/distributed the game to
see if they have any Vista suggestions, tips, hints, ideas, etc?
