Image Diff Engine overwrites Control Panel settings

I

Ian

I have XPe SP2 deployed in the field.
Now I find that there are many patches to update SP2 since 2007 (>50 patches).
To simplify patching the deployed SP2 installations, I want to use the MS
Image Diff Engine to install these patches as a single patch/upgrade.
However, I have found that doing so removes any customized Control Panel
settings that existed in the field units.

How can I tell the Image Diff Engine not to overwrite any customized Control
Panel settings when performing the update?

Thanks,
- Ian

You'll have to find the corresponding registry entries related to those
control panel settings and add them to the idiff.xml.

I'm having a similar problem right now but with tcp/ip settings.

These wouldn't be conveniently or logically clustered in the registry, would
they?
I would like all settings in the Control Panel to be untouched by the
update, which sounds like it would be a lot of settings.

I tried ignoring all registry entries (*) in idiff.xml, but that didn't seem
to ignore all registry entries.
