Image color different in PE and PaintShop Pro

R

Roger Halstead

Many images opened in Photoshop Elements have a much warmer cast than
when the same images are opened in Paintshop Pro.

The cast is warm enough that were I going to be showing the images it
would require some color correction, yet they look just fine in
Paintshop Pro. Not all images as warm .. "To me" it seems as if PE
accentuates the warm colors to get this effect.

Although I've gone through a lot of images I'm still a relatively new
user of PE so it's probably some setting in the configuration I'm
missing.

I've spent a lot of time in the help files and done some searches on
the web, but apparently I'm not asking the right questions.

Any pointers on what to look for, or suggestions?

The advantage of using Elements over PSP is the basic color managment
available in ELements. You may be experiencing a translation of color spaces
without realizing it. The Help topics for Elements reviews this issue.

Thanks for the pointer.

Other than calibrating the monitor I haven't found anything.
Translation only brings up printing. I think it almost has to do be
the monitor profile, In PE but no luck so far.

I'll keep experimenting.

Photoshop Elements has just reduced colormanagement features.
The main point I suppose is the working color space.
There are three colormanagement settings in PE
- not colormanagement
- basic colormanagement for web
- full colormanagement for prints
With basic colormanagement the working color space is sRGB and with
full colormanagement PE switches to Adobe (1998) RGB.
So far no problem. The problem is with the handling of files without
an embeded icc-profile. The assumed profile with basic colormanagement
is sRGB and with full colormanagement it is Adobe (1998) RGB.
I don't no which working color space PSP uses. I guess none or sRBG.
This might be the reason for the differences.

I had tried both basic and full color management, but the results were
the same.

I finally decided to turn off the color management "No color
management" and the colors "seem" to be natural and apparently match
what I see in Paintshop Pro.

Apparently it's none, but with the colors matching in both and
matching prints, what purpose do the other color management schemes
serve?
I normally put straight JPGs on the net and some times put them into
photoshop, but again I've noticed no difference when putting a PSP
image, into an Adobe PDF.

Again, I'm rather new at this end of the image manipulation. I rarely
have ever bothered to change the color balance from a scan, or from a
digital camera and have used what I get.

I thought the reason for the profiles was to get the application, the
monitor, and a print to all look the same, but the only way I manage
to get that is to turn off the color management.

Thanks for the pointers,
