@a slide show or video? I'll explain.

@I have a set of webcam images, a fixed view of an outdoor subject, a plant.
@This is to become a time lapse photo, but the camera moved slightly both
@laterally and vertically (the photos are over a year!!)

If all your pictures are say 300X300 you could manually crop them all
to a smaller size. Going for the best center for each picture.

The reverse is also true, if your pictures are 300X300 you could make
the paste them to a larger background [say 310X310) this way the all
the pictures are centered. The content of the pictures would still be
off slightly.

@I have been playing around centering them manually, but this is very
@tedious and long.

I'm sure it is. You could always leave out some of the really bad
ones. I doubt anyone would notice. Instead of doing a film using
every *frame* you could use every other or every 2 or 3 or 5 *frames*

Depending on when the camera moved, how long it sayed in that new
postion, you could make a few time lapse films. One when the camera
was in postion 1, one when the camera got moved and was in postion 2,
and so on.

I have been playing around centering them manually, but this is very
tedious and long.

I have found free software that makes a panoramic image from a bunch of
overlapping images by "stitching" them together. This obviously works by
some kind of digital recognition of the images, in order to stitch them
together automatically. It also corrects the colors to some kind of average
pallette.

An automatic centering program would use the same or very similar edge
detection algorithm and color adjustments. Anyone here heard of such a
thing?

That's basically what I have done, and they can then be centered manually.
What I was and am looking ofr is a specialized program that might be able
to it and save many tedious hours.

Maybe someone at alt.photography can give you some ideas.
