I'm looking for a way to implement an IM solution for my help desk. I'd
like to place a client on everyone's desk and give all users the ability
to IM anyone in IT but no one else in the company, and give IT the
ability to IM everyone. I have a feeling that once we have it setup,
this will be expanded for a few other departments to communitcate with
each other, but again, under very tight restrictions. Given these
requirements, automatic logging of communications would be very helpful.

I'm also in the process of trying to find a help desk package, so if the
two were integrated that would be great but is not a requirement.

I appreciate any suggestions anyone can make. TIA.

I don't have a suggestion for your IM requirement but for your help
desk package, you could try ieSupportManager (
www.iecomputersystems.ie ). It is a very flexible helpdesk solution
and it is very competively priced. Includes knowledgebase, call
logging / call tracking, lots of reports and a web interface.
