I'm unable to log onto windows

One of the computers in my home network is not responding to the
administrator password for that particular pc.

I get the first " Log on to windows box " which asks for a user name and
password,
And thats about as far as it goes.
I don't know if one of the kids has changed the password or downloaded a
trojan thats changed the password or what.

My knowledge of computers extends as far as " its got a keyboard and a mouse!"

Any ideas please as i dont particularly want to re-install windows and lose
all the kids homework, pictures and games.

Try using the built in "Administrator" account. If this is XP Pro at the
welcome screen do ctrl-alt-del twice. This will bring up the classic login
box. Type Administrator in the name and enter the password assigned to that
account. That account was created at the time the OS was installed.

If XP Home to access the Administrator account boot into safe mode. Restart
the computer. As the BIOS info screen disappears repeatedly tap the F8 key
until the Advanced Options menu appears. Choose safe mode. The
Administrator account should appear on the Welcome screen. Normally the
password for that account is blank.

If none of this works use this utility to reset the Administrator password.
