I'm SICK of apps NOT RESPONDING!

Well I'm getting pretty sick of all the NOT RESPONDING apps. Must will
eventually respond (sometimes after many minutes of waiting) but it is
happening way to much.

It isn't one app but can be anything and everything at one time or
another.

Is this happening to everyone or just me?

Sounds like your system is bogged down with not enough memory and too
many applications running at the same time... or maybe your hard drive
needs to be defragged or you need a bigger faster...

521MB ram used to be a lot of memory :-(

Bad guess
Just built this box and it has 2 gigs of ram. AMD X2 4200+
Everything runs fast but I gets lots of apps hanging in Vista with
"not responding". This "not responding" can be anywhere from a few
seconds to minutes and it seems to be from apps that access drives or
explorer.

"bp" - I have no solution to your problem - only to state that in
"playing" with Vista throughout the Betas and the "final release" - on a
laptop and desktop there have been no "consistent" not responding problems.
Those that did occasionally occur were with haste in using Outlook Express
and Microsoft Word 2007.

When resolved please post solution.

Explorer often hangs on me with the Not Responding deal, and I have
3.2ghz Intel and 2gigs of Ram. A lot of the time when this happens,
I launch explorer and in the breadcrumb bar, a very slow green
progress bar makes it's way from left to right. Is Vista indexing
everything before you open it? I have no idea.

Also, when I try to launch Word 2007 documents from the Start
Menu>Recent Items folder, and Word is NOT already open, it will often
hang for up to 2 minutes.

About the only time I got a series of apps not responding, is when I
accidentally turned DEP on for all programs. Setting it back to Essential
programs only fixed that.

I've played around quite a bit with Vista the past 2 months and haven't
gotten hardly any Not responding. My main focus is with video games, but
I've loaded up a fair number of apps like Office 2003 and so far so good.

Did you do a fresh install or an upgrade to XP ?

What's DEP?

Freash 64 bit install in a duel boot setup with XP

At this point I have uninstalled everything that doesn't say VISAT
ready or has a Vista driver. However i have a Nvidia grahpic card and
Nvidia chipset and I hear their vista drivers are sucking hard.

I did go to a 32 bit install hoping it would be more compatiable but
it was even worse so I restored back to 64 bit.

Have you gone into your BIOS and selected the most conservative
settings for RAM?

Word 2007 is the only Office program I have installed on my new laptop, and I
can't even use it. I've used it for a week with no problems, and now every
time I open a file and attempt to edit it, after a few minutes it will freeze
and do the "Not responding" thing indefinitely. I have to close it and open
again just to do the same thing over. I am using a trial version of Word
2007, and I have uninstalled it and reinstalled it. Still the same problem.
I've gone through all of the Word 2007 forums and have found no resolution. I
have no hanging problems with IE or Explorer.
