To stop some people using MS Messenger etc, am looking for a IM
server/client app that can run across a corporate network/vpn, 17 sites
around the world. Ideally running from a centralised server in one of the
locations

Any suggestions/recommendations appreciated

regards

Jabber: http://www.jabber.org
It's Open Source, so there are a few different clients to suit your
preferences.

If you're running a corporate network, you're likely using AD. Just set a
group policy that prevents MS Messenger from running. At least that will
prevent them from using MS Messenger. Sorry, can't help with the other
part.

Run gpedit.msc to see it.
