I'm forced to save Word doc attachements before opening them

I used to be able to double-click on an attachment to open it. Now, when I do
that, a dialog box with SAVE & CANCEL opens up, along with a warning message.
I have to save the attachment, exit the mail and open the saved version of
the attachment ... All rather clunky and inconvenient. How can I switch this
off in Outlook?
I think this new 'feature' may have been installed with one of the automatic
updates that Windows does?
My current version of Outlook is 2003 (11.8002.6568) SP2

Nice to be able to read them directly from there. The trash them or save them
for later work. But your suggestion (I found in another post) worked - Thanks!

Read them or save them, sure. Even if they're read-only you should be able
to do that. Just don't change them without saving them to a non-temporary
location first, then change the save copy.

That's great. You're welcome.
