IM error message w/ Internet Explorer

I am having a problem staying connected with a person
when in an instant messaging session. An internet
explorer error message pops up about 5 minutes into the
IM session. I chose to send the error message to
Microsoft and all the windows close. I chose not to send
the error message to Microsoft and the windows still
close. So then I have to log back on to AOL and open and
start a new IM session. This has occured with every chat
or IM service I use on my computer. Any ideas what this
means? HELP!

What is the exact error? What operating system are you
running, what version of IE? Which IM program?
This is the least information the experts here need in
order to help.
