A networking virgin (with 2 ex-wives!)
OK i'm going to set up a small network to practice my networking skills on.
1 PC will run Windows Server 2003 SE, 1 with XP Prp & 1 with Win 98SE.
I have the Cat5 cables made up, only took me 90 minutes to make up 3!!
But not sure which Hub to buy, so advice please.

Did think of a 5 Port Hub from Maplin Part No: ZF82D 5 Prt 10/100 Hub
Any views, advice or general comments are all welcome.

Good luck getting 98 to talk to, or be shouted at by NT

Any old 10/100 Hub will do, no really, they are just a basic switch ... but, are you going to connect to, and share, the Internet ?

A Router may be a better bet if the Internet is coming into play ... ADSL or Cable ??

More questions to follow ... :D

Not planning on going on the net, just to practice running a small network.
Seeing how things go etc.
May try windows 2k pro instead of Server 2003?

Sorted then ... just go to Maplin and get a 10/100 4port hub ... Taking a leaf out of *insert any manufacturer you like here* book here, a 4port will be cheaper than a 5port, no ? :D
