illegal software and upgrading

I purchased WinXP Pro from a third party vendor recently.
I removed partitions and installed the os. While
attempting to register and activate, I was informed the
software was unauthorized. The activation period has
expired and the os is inoperable. I would like to know
what version full or upgrade of WinXP should I purchase at
this time. Any recommendations would be appreciated.

Either contact the vendor, or call microsoft directly
I'm sure the number given for activation can be used.

Did you buy one of those, too cheap to believe copies???

If you have a qualifying product(cd) like win98 or wimme or win2k, then get
the upgrade version.
If you don't have a qulaifying product on cd then get the full version.
I believe you can even just buy a new valid license from ms as well.

You can buy just a license. I found a place that charged only $95. Make sure that you have the full copy of the cd first. I would also contact MS first also unless you know that you have a pirated copy
