I have a question regarding using the IIS's FTP server (b.t.w., weren't there
a newsgroup for IIS before...?).
I want only users which I have registered and given passwords to be able to
connect to my FTP server.
I open Start->Program->Administrative Tools->Internet Information Services.
I then right click "Standard FTP site" (translated from Swedish, so the text
is probably not exactly the same) in the tree view in the left window of
Internet Information Services. So then I do what feels most intuitive to me;
I click the Security accounts tab and uncheck "Allow only anonymous
connections" (that's correctly translated from Swedish to English). To me
"Allow only anonymous connections" mean that anyone without an account can
connect to my FTP server, which I don't want to happen. However, when I
uncheck the check box a popup window appears saying that since I unchecked
the check box the password will be sent without encryption. I feel that is
very stupid - why is it this way? I see no reason for this! How can I create
password protected accounts in IIS and make sure that no anonymous
connections are allowed?
