Am I installing the web server when I am installing IIS or are these
two different things?

IIS is the web server which is also often referred to as an application

Yes, IIS is otherwise known as your web-server. If you are are installing
Visual Studio 2005 as well on your system, you will have another web-server
installed. This is the lightweight webserver that comes as a part of the
package with VS2005.
