I downloaded and installed service pack 3 for Office 2003 yesterday and
discocevered that all the emails in my Inbox were gone. Other folders were
fine. Where did they go and how do I get them back?

Thanks.

It may be more a coincidence then the cause or at least I have not seen emails disappear due to a service pack being installed.

Lets first check to see if the view just did not get changed - Click on View - Current View.

Or perhaps they were inadverently moved or delted, use the advanced search to see if you can locate them. Do you have auto archive setup to move or delete the items?

Thanks for the reply. I appreciate it. Unfortunately, I still can't find
them. auto Archive is off (and always has been), the View was correct and I
know without a doubt that I did not delete or move them. I found all of the
old ones that had attachemnts in a Large Mail folder (a sub-folder under
Search Folder). I did not put them there, nor I had I ever seen or used the
Large Mail folder before. All this happened immediately after I installed
SP3. Could it have perfomed some housekeeping tasks?

I am not aware of any housekeeping function when installing service packs and I have installed them many times.

Perhaps though it is just something I or my customers have not had issues.

The housekeeping I typically use are Rules and Auto-Archiving.

One thing odd you mentioned is that you found them in Search sub-folder. Were you using the Search folders before they emails were lost? Perhaps you had the Search folder setup before hand and were fortunate to find them there.

The search folders are just that for searching and they do not move emails from the main location. So if a housekeeping function was setup with installing the service pack I doubt they would place them in the search folders.

I hope this helps, at least a little

I cannot imagine that this is related to the service pack installation.
Have you checked your AutoArchive settings?
