iexplorer 6 problem

I have something wrong with a computer. When I start IE it comes up blank
not responding... it's using all the CPU. I noticed this previously when
my computer was not responding that mobsync was using all cpu.

I downloaded latest viruses defs (8/16) and did all critical windows updates
(from the critical update notice in system tray - can't use IE to get to
update website).
I ran Adaware (with latest updates) and Msft Antispyware scans. It finds
not critical adware but that's it.

Still can't get it running.

Is there a way to uninstall/reinstall IE like the old 'repair' option?
What else can I try?

Thanks much for any help!

forgot to mention... XPsp2. Can't identify version of IE since I can't get
HELP to respond when I open it, but I have auto updates on.

Go to: http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/unwanted.htm
Download "Hijack This!" [freeware]

Unzip, double-click "HijackThis.exe" and Press "Scan".

When the scan is finished, the "Scan" button will change into a "Save Log"
button.
Click: "Save Log" (generates: "hijackthis.log")
