Please try the IE7 group.
The recommended newsgroup is microsoft.public.internetexplorer.general

In a proper newsreader:
news://msnews.microsoft.com/microsoft.public.internetexplorer.general

If you must use a web interface:

I quite frankly do not under stand this kind of a reply. IE 5 was an
integral part of Windows XP Gold. IE 6 was part of WXP-SP2.
It is also noted that up to a few days ago IE 7 was part of the
critical _WINDOWS_ update. IE is a part of WXP, which will
not run without it.

Because simply since there are enough queries about Internet Explorer
AND it runs on multiple operating systems, it warrants having it's own
group. SO pointing people to those group reduces unnecessary traffic in
the operating system groups AND allows for better response by volunteers
who monitor the specific groups and know the answers. I hope this helps
your understanding of how groups are assigned.

IE7 is not mandatory and I have not personally installed it.
I pointed you toward the IE7 group as that is where the experts are.

Windows/Microsoft/Automatic Update offers IE7 as a High-Priority Update, not
a Critical Update. WinXP will run just fine without upgrading to IE7.
