IExplore weired behaviour on NT and XP

I am seeing this weired(atleast from the default behaviour i saw on other machines) behaviour where when i launch an IE from the shortcut i see an IExplorer.exe comming up in the task manager process list and once the page loads it goes off even though the window is still there. I saw this on couple of machines with NT, XP only. NT are upgraded from IE 5.5 to 6.0 recently. I beleive with the XP its staraight 6.0 > Is there any reason why we are seeing this behaviour. Other thing is we have an application which launches IE and this time IEXPLORER.EXE in the task/processlist doesnt go off. But when i close the IEXPLORER.EXE from the task/process,the browser window still stays. It looks like they are detached some how. I would like to calrify if expecting one IExplore.exe in the process list for each new instance of browser (from short cut or command line ) is a valid one or not. If ues why i could be seeing this weired behaviour.

First eliminate any scumware.

In other words this is weired?. By default either 5.5/6.0 on Nt and XP default process and Window relation ship is one to one. Each instance of browser will create a new IExplore.EXE process in the task/process List?. And before i check for adware unwanted programs are there any other symptoms i need to look for to confirm this is a result of these unwanted programs.
