Iexplore.exe will not close down when I am no longer signed on the internet.

When I sign off of the internet, and I go to shutdown, I
always get a message that iexplore.exe is not closed and
an option to end now. when I press end now, it pops up
again. It seems that for every website I go on, a new
iexplore.exe window opens that does not shutdown. When I
shut them all down from the task manager, the system will
shut down.
