IEEE 1394 seems to cause 56k modem problem

I've installed a firewire card on my desktop (XP-Home). The problem
is that Windows has installed a network connection for the firewire
and it seems to be interfering with my 56k modem connection. I can
log on to the network but IE and Outlook do not detect a connection.
I checked to see if there is a bridge between the two connections. XP
responds that there isn't one. I've searched this site and cannot
find a solution.

Help!

I solved my problem. The best source for anyone else with the same
problem is Jay O'Brien's posting at

http://obri.net/tech/firewire.html.

I realize now that there is an element of "Plug-and-Pray" to
"Plug-and-Play." In defense of Microsoft, I see the issue as a trade
off between flexibility and user-friendliness for hardware novices
such as me. This in the context of trying to keep up with emerging
technologies.
