ieaccess.inf error =can't access add/remove-Windows Components

Hi all,
Have about a week old upgrade on winME laptop to XP(2002) & then current
updates including SP2.

Suddenly can't access the windows components in control panels add/remove.
Can access add/remove but then button click to windows components produces
the error. Wen't back to a march3 restore point and didn't work so
restore point back to current date and ran SFC .. Still same error message
'see below'.

Suspect either a power off crash today or possibly Diskeeper Lite Trial I
installed/uninstalled then default defrag broke and a few other minor
problems. Restore point fixed. Since then installed Airsnort & MS ant-spy
beta. Anyhow the error:

Hi,

Extract a copy of ieaccess.inf from XP CD-ROM. Insert the XP CD in the drive
and open Command Prompt.

Example:
Type:
expand -r Drive:\i386\<filename.in_> C:\Windows\inf
Where Drive:\ denotes the CD-ROM drive letter.

Type:
expand -r Drive:\i386\<ieaccess.in_> C:\Windows\inf

FYI

RE access denied at cmd window new install

"Ramesh, I've been able to use task mgr and have added/removed items and
otherwise edited regedit as well as done other admin duties as its just me
only on my personal laptop auto logged in as default administrator with
no password c/o tweakUI. I have noticed a couple of things that I had to
fiddle with to accomplish but back of my head had an idea why.

I followed your link to and added the registry Policy branch the
'Policy' branch was nonexistent in the registry here. Duplicated the
expand -r as a test still received access denied ,,, I removed the
new Policy branch then guessed correctly by adding a password to my login
and now from a cmd window expand -r test = success.

Another- words blank password = access denied messages except at RUN on
making changes in the file system or on the drive because before copy from
cd to a temp folder wouldn't work either..

thanks again, mike
