IE8 Not Working When....

E

EtherStreams

Hi. I've installed IE8 and it works great. All Windows Updates have been
installed (with the exception of the .Net Framework 3.5). Anyways....I'm
re-installing the various programs I use to find that when I install my Iolo
System Mechanic 7 and update it, my IE8 ceases to function (I click on the
icons including the .exe in the IE folder and nothing happens.) Is there a
way to repair IE8 after installing and updating my System Mechanic??? Or
maybe a way to find out what in the installation of said program is blowing
out IE8???

My recommendation is not to use System Mechanic. My system is four years
old and I have never found a need for System Mechanic or any other similar
program.

I mean no offense, however, I have used System Mechanic for many years and
have come to enjoy it's help at keeping my computer lean and mean (waisted
space, reg keys etc....). Any thoughts on what is blowing out IE8 or a way to
repair it after the updating would be appreciated.

Dump IE8 and use Firefox, Opera or any other browser than IE.
As far as "four year old systems never needing" ....etc. We mere
mortals feel the need....even if the need is of a "security blanket-
type". Some of we mere mortals tend to WANT to "go where no MS MVP
goes before" so just you carry on using your System Mechanic. But I
would seriously think about changing your IE-any-version for something
less confining and buggy.
Good luck, EtherStreams. :)

There is absolutely no need for System Mechanic. Delete it and see how
smooth and error free your computer will
run.

Try this:
-- Uninstall IE8 using add/remove.
-- Uninstall/ Restart/reinstall your program.
-- Reinstall IE8.
-- IF IE8 works OK, make certain your other program still works too.
If not, they are simply incompatible and cannot live together.
Somewhere, the SM is stepping on IE8's toes and messing up some code
that it needs. It might be in the form of an old DLL that, when IE8
adds its own, will still function fine.

Another idea: Contact System Mechanic. Do you have the latest version?
If not, get it.
If the problem persists using the latest version, then ask them how
to get it to work with IE8.

You'll have to pardon a few of the people here. There are some
seriously closed minds that insist on the rest of the world thinking as
they do, and too many of them claim the MVP title for my liking. One
person's opinion of something is never another person's factual data,
but they tend to forget that (on purpose). There are programs I'll
never allow on my machine too, but that's ME, not everyone else in the
world.

That's interesting. But, doesn't the renaming simply make that
particular DLL unavailable to the program it was provided for?
That implies that something is borked after the renaming. What's
borked? How is it borked?

I think if it were me, I'd get that information directly from SM where
those questions could be answered. Would you happen to know?
I'm not saying it doesn't make them work together, but unless one of
the programs is specifically looking for "_ioloHL.dll" (which sounds
unlikely), one to several features/functions are not going to work.
When a file is renamed, it is no longer available to the program looking
for it; it's just like deleting it except that you can rename it back to
make it work again. I've never heard of writing a program with an OR
function for the DLL it looks for, but ... anything is possible, I
suppose. I don't know; something just smells fishy at that URL.

here is the solution.
1. Please restart your computer in Windows Safe Mode.
2. Once booted, please navigate to the folder C:\Program
Files\iolo\Common\Lib.
3. Right-click on the file named ioloHL.dll and select Rename.
4. Rename the file with an underscore in front of it (Shift - on thekeyboard)
5. Example: _ioloHL.dll 6. Restart your system normally and try your browser.
i fix ie8 with this simple steps.
enjoy ie8 is teh best
