IE8 Install but I can not log-in after

M

Martin Racette

Hi,

After I installed IE8, which I downloaded from the Microsoft website, it
requires me to login to some community, so I filled in the username,
password and e-mail adress, I even checked the I AGREE checkbox, when I
click on the submit button I get straight back to the same page.

I notice just above the I AGREE checkbox and subit button a square with
weird looking wavy lines, is there something that I am suppose to do with
this square

You are not 'required' to do anything after installing IE8 - what are
you talking about?

When I start IE8 it requires me to login to some community, since i do not
have any ID/Passowrd already setup with this community, I need to set one up
but I can not because of the problem that I specified below
And until I can login to the community, I can not use IE8

I say again...

YOU DO NOT HAVE TO LOG IN TO ANY "COMMUNITY" TO USE IE8.

If you are getting that response, then you did not get IE8 from an
authorized/clean source, and should uninstall it, run recognised
malware cleaning tools, and then reinstall IE8 from the Microsoft
download site (or from Windows Updates, where it is available now)

I got it from http://www.microsoft.com and then I clicked on the GET IE8,
you can not get any cleanner than that, and yes until I can create the
login in the community there is nothing that I can do with either IE8

I got it from http://www.microsoft.com and then I clicked on the GET IE8,
and until I can get the login created I can not do anything with either IE8,
and the community is MICROSOFT community, and as I said before it asked me
to provide a user ID, password, e-mail adress, and then just above the
submit there is a square in which there is a bunch of wavy lines and it says
that I must copy the word(s), which I do not know which word(s) is that, and
I can not replicate those wavy line since my computer has only a keyboard
and a mouse, and I do not know how to replicate those lines using those

BTW I remember that I had a similar problem using facebook, I could not, and
still can not, add any friends because it does something similar, but there
it says that I MUST copy those wavy lines and I never figured out how

You're seeing what's called CAPCHA (it's a pun on the English word
"capture").

You're not supposed to copy the wavy lines. You're supposed to see several
letters and numbers superposed on those lines or partially hidden by them,
and what you're supposed to do is type those letters and numbers. NB: they
are case sensitive.

It's a sort of password, and it's supposed to defeat "bots", robots that
sneak into such sites. In fact, it amounts to a Turing Test.

If you can't see the letters, then you have a problem with your monitor or
browser color settings.

Could it be the MSN version of IE8???

Could it be the MSN version of IE8???

Possibly - in that case it's not IE8 that's demanding credentials,
it's MSN (which I refuse to use as a browser, and know nothing about)

To the OP

please clarify - and UNINSTALL MSN!

All I see is just a bunch of wavy lines all black, but I can not make out
any kind of characters in those. All those lines a re just a big (small)
puzzle that I can not decypher. Is there any way to bypass that and keep on
with whats next

I can't really help, then. *If* I interpreted your previous remarks
correctly, here really should be some characters visible in the box.

Sorry - it's got to be a real pain for you.

I do not use MSN except for Messenger, and even very little of it, I have
already tried to uninstall IE8, the only way that I found was to restore
from a backup that I have, and I even re-downloaded the installation from
the Microsoft website at the following adress
http://www.microsoft.com/canada/windows/internet-explorer/default.aspx, and
it was at that same adress that I downloaded it previously

Why that link should download MSN Explorer I have no idea - and why
you are unable to back out of the install using Programs in Control
Panel I have even less idea.

that *should* have led to the following page.....
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...b4-c610-4a1e-811d-dfe0f1dd84d1&displaylang=en
(assuming you said Vista and Canada to the questions asked prior to
the download - and that you're using 32bit Vista)

the file you downloaded should have been

IE8-WindowsVista-x86-ENU.exe

What is the Windows page header when you open IE8 now??

There is two big problem with that,
1) I can not take a snapshot, since I do not own a camera and
2) I do not have access to a file sharing site, and I can not go to any site
since IE8 does not let me do anything until I have completed the login that
is required

M

Martin Racette

I do not know what MSN Explorer is, but what I have is IE8 and no I am not
using the 32 bit since I could not use any memory installed in the computer
with that OS, I am using Vista 64 Ultimate, I do not remember the exact name
of the file but it was something like that except that it was for Vista 64

There is two big problem with that,
1) I can not take a snapshot, since I do not own a camera and

Screen snapshot is done by built-in software.
2) I do not have access to a file sharing site,

There are free ones, but I don't know the names.
and I can not go to any site
since IE8 does not let me do anything until I have completed the login that
is required

I would suggest downloading another browser (Firefox, for example); maybe
borrow a friend's computer and download it it onto a thumb drive.

M

Martin Racette

And just how do I do screen snapshot, as far as I know I do not have
anything on my computer to do that, I do not work with picture

I do not want to install any other browser, that may render part of what I
use as software to not work properly and even not work at all, among them I
am thinking about Visual Basic Express 2008, which require IE and I have
been told that firefox make it not work at all, and the same for FSX

Pressing the Print Scrn key will copy the screen to the clipboard. You can
paste itinto Paint.

If you do not want to temporarily install another browser
to help us help you then take your machine to a computer repair
shop and pay for help.

Roger that.

Or Amen, or whatever :)
