IE8 Browsing History shows avi, jpg, etc. files

I notice that when I view images with the Picture and Fax Viewer or videos
with WinAmp, the files get entered into IE8's browsing history. Actually, it
seems that opening any file by clicking it in Explorer causes the filename to
be added to IE8's browsing history.

Not a big deal, but a bit annoying... why should such files have anything to
do with IE or its browsing history?

Any way to prevent this? I'm using XP SP3.
