IE8 Beta2 released today

There's a pretty good (for a change) article from the NY Times circuits guy
about this--but the link to a download is bad. I suspect today is the end
of an embargo on printing news about this release, but I haven't seen a
download link that works yet. (and I haven't followed yours yet to see!)

There were two on my Google news page that worked but one was being flagged
as yellow by McAfee Site Advisor so didn`t post it. This one came up clean.
Haven`t seen anything on COU yet.

Guess you must be busy downloading and evaluating by now Bill? I have to
confess at doing this with Beta 1. Not that I have the credentials to do
that. What I did note was how seamlessly it installed then uninstalled and
left (my system at least), in the same state as before. I seem to recall that
was a major problem with the upgrade from IE6 to IE7. Mine was no exception.
There were a lot of issues in that upgrade for me.

I`m using it right now without any notable problems so far. I particularly
like the compatability button which appears next to the refresh one when an
older web site is visited which has not been updated to be compatible with
IE8 technology. This can lead to misplaced adverts and headers. Just select
and everthing falls into place. Other than that, my post above this one just
about sums things up so far. Quote:

"Thank you Randy. I`m now viewing you thru IE8 B2. Installation was sea
mless (for me) and took about 13 minutes from download to installation and
reboot. First impression is that I like the Accelerator feature. Seems to
load and refresh faster but that could be just my expectation - long way to
go yet."

I did try the Beta1 for developers and found it rather buggy for me. What I
was impressed with was the uninstall process which left my system in exactly
the same state as before. A far cry from the upgrade from IE6 to 7 and vice
versa. For me, I think the Microsoft developers have done a good job with IE8
installation.

Here`s the Microsoft download link if you have a spare box to try it on:

Having said all that please remember (as I`m sure you will) this IS BETA
SOFTWARE and hasn`t reached a RC version yet.

Your ever sacrificial lamb ;)

There is one thing that I`ve noticed I think - my visual memory is not that
good. Since installing IE8 every MS site visited offers the Windows live
Search option as part of the header which is not always presented correctly.
Not sure I like that and haven`t yet found a way (if at all possible) to
turn the option off. Maybe its not an option!

Hmm. I like this very much. Maybe I`m just easily impressed. If you don`t
have a download accelerator installed - preferring, instead, to let IE8 do
your downloads. There is now an option presented (with link) to report the
site as being suspect if you feel that is the case. I always run a scan of
any files I download before installing anyway and have McAfee Site Advisor
Plus installed as a BHO to keep me away from those suspect sites.

Well done Microsoft developers!! I Like!!

I had some trouble with the move from beta1 to beta2. Beta1 was not in the
update list. I used a command line procedure in the beta2 release notes,
but it had a typo in it which I had to spot and fix.

And--WindowsUpdate has had some oddities since--still working on that.
