IE7 to IE8

Marcus

I have downloaded the new IE8 which caused lots of problems as my favourites
did not seem to get switched across correctly as none were showing under the
fav tab.

I had set a restore point before getting IE8 but when I went back to that
point IE7 did not work right as had none of the correct toolbars or favs so I
took the decision to set up IE7 again (I had the download saved) & have spent
last hour getting all the updates again.

Anyone else issues?

Had you changed the location of your Favorites folder from the default
before installing IE8?

What anti-virus application or security suite is installed and is your
subscription current? What anti-spyware applications (other than Defender)?
What third-party firewall (if any)? Were any of these applications running
in the background when you installed IE8?

Has a Norton or McAfee application ever been installed on this machine
(e.g., a free-trial version that came preinstalled when you bought it)?

I had to uninstall ie8 today because some of my web pages were coming up
with a urlmon.dll error and would close out. Wouldn't have been such a
problem if it didn't affect my cell phone account website, but I need to
access that site.

Debbie, are you running Vista and WinXP computers? (I've replied to your
post in Windows Update newsgroup about your inability to install Vista SP1.)

No one this one I'm running XP SP3. I came across 2 sites so far that got
the urlmon.dll error. So I just uninstalled ie8. Too bad, cause I was
really starting to like it.

I have not altered the store folder & indeed when I put IE7 back on all my
favs were there again. Was not aware you could change the store, I have
changed where my OE messages are stored for added safety.

I have the free Comodo Internet Security 3.8 running which is Firewall &
Virus etc and yes this was running when I downloaded IE8.

Have never had any Norton or McAfee products, not even free trial versions.

By the way, I told someone today of my issue with IE8 and he told me had
been advised by his employers last week not to update from IE7 as they said
were issues with IE8.

Some things to ponder if you want to try IE8 again:

1. Did the behavior persist if you started IE8 in No Add-ons mode? To start
IE in No Add-ons mode:

=> Right-click on the blue IE desktop icon and select Start without
Add-ons; or

=> Start | (All) Programs | Accessories | System Tools | Internet
Explorer (No add-ons).

2. Did the behavior persist if you Reset IE Advanced settings (RIES)?

What anti-virus application or security suite is installed, is your
subscription current, and did you confirm that it's supported in IE8? What
anti-spyware applications (other than Defender)? What third-party firewall
(if any)? Were any of these applications running in the background when you
installed IE8?
